Hip Roof

The hip roof or hipped roof, is a type of roof in which the four slopes descend towards the four walls, with a gentle slope. A house with this kind of roof does not have gables, that is, the vertical flat faces of the gabled roofs.

The general shape of this roof is the pyramid one, with four triangular faces; If the house is longer in one direction, this pyramid is made up of two opposite triangles and two adjacent trepezoids.

Likewise, most roofs in this category only have 4 faces, although there may be hybrids by creating attached spaces, sometimes with another roof of this type, other times with a gabled roof.

Since the inclination of their faces is the same, gutters can be included around the entire roof to collect rainwater in a single fall.

Today, roofs of this type are more common for bungalows and cottages, and are an integral part of various architectural styles such as the American Foursquare, but in practice they have been used in many modern styles.
